High school life in Japan might be even more exciting than what you’ve seen in dramas and anime. Of course, studying is important. But beyond that, you’ll have the chance to meet lifelong friends and spend time creating treasured memories filled with laughter and maybe even a few tears. This is what we call “seishun,” your youthful, irreplaceable days.
The Star of After-School: “Bukatsu” (Club Activities) For most Japanese high school students, life revolves around club activities. The variety is huge, from sports like soccer and baseball to cultural clubs like brass band, tea ceremony, or even an anime research society. Working hard with your teammates toward a common goal will create powerful bonds that transcend language barriers.
Big Events Created by Everyone Japanese high schools have major events where the entire school comes together as one. At the “Bunkasai” (culture festival), classes set up their own food stalls or put on plays. At the “Taiikusai” (sports festival), everyone competes for their team’s glory. The sense of accomplishment you’ll feel from achieving something together is guaranteed to become one of your best memories.
Not Just a Uniform: “SEIFUKU” The uniform that most students wear every day is more than just clothing; it’s a symbol of school pride and a part of your identity. Students enjoy showing their individuality through how they tie their ribbons or wear their shirts. And best of all, not having to worry about what to wear every morning is more convenient than you might think!
Are you ready to write your own chapter of “seishun” at a Japanese high school?
