A “visa” is the official permission that allows you to legally enter and stay in Japan. The process might seem a bit complicated, but if you follow the steps, you’ll be fine.

The Basic Application Flow
- Receive the Certificate of Eligibility (COE) Once your enrollment at the school in Japan is approved, the Ministry of Justice will issue a document called a COE, which will be sent to you via your school. You cannot begin the visa application without this.
- Apply for the Visa Go to the Embassy or Consulate-General of Japan in your country, and submit the required documents to apply for the visa.
- Receive the Visa After your application is approved, your passport will be returned to you with the visa stamped inside.
