Moomin Bakery and Café at LaQua, Tokyo Dome

Tokyo has pretty much every themed café you can imagine, and if you’re a fan of Tove Jansson’s Moomin characters, the Moomin Bakery and Café is a must-visit. It’s located at LaQua near Tokyo Dome. If you go on a weekend or public holiday, be ready to wait in line, because there are a lot of Moomin fans. Weekdays are much quieter and more relaxed.

One really fun thing about this café is that, if you’re lucky, a plush Moomin might come and sit at your table with you. And if you’re really lucky, you might get Snork Maiden or even Moominpappa!

The café serves lots of Moomin-themed food and drinks. To be honest, I didn’t pay much attention to how the food tasted because I was too busy enjoying the fairy-tale atmosphere. Everywhere you look, there are cute Moomin characters like Moomin, Snufkin, and Little My, which makes the place feel magical.

On special occasions, such as Valentine’s Day or Moomin Day (celebrated on August 9th to mark Tove Jansson’s birthday), the café adds special limited-time items to the menu, which makes it even more exciting.

If there’s one downside, it’s that the café is a bit expensive. Cute Moomin lattes and Moomin omurice (Japanese omelette rice) don’t come cheap. Still, the experience is totally worth it, especially if you love Moomins!
